Original 1st US release of The Beatles’ album compilation “The Beatles / 1967-1970”, representing an anthology of the best Beatles songs for the period from 1967 to 1970, which was released in 1973 concurrently with its counterpart 1962-1966 (the “Red Album”) that you can also find among our currently listed items. The compilation albums were created by Apple and EMI/Capitol Records in response to a bootleg collection titled Alpha Omega, which had been sold on television the previous year. Print advertising for the two records made a point of declaring them "the only authorized collection of the Beatles". This issue, released on two LPs, is often called the "Blue Album". 1st print gatefold cover with the green Apple Records logo at the top on the back and "1700 Broadway, New York, New York, 10019" address at the bottom. This copy is the original 1st pressing and NOT the reissue with Capitol's target logo on the back of the cover. This factory sealed copy also has a large 4” x 6” blue hype sticker with the Apple logo and song titles affixed to the shrink wrap at the bottom right corner of the back cover. The sticker contains the “Printed in U.S.A.” text, “3404” catalog number and advertises the presence of “Complete Lyrics Included Inside” at the bottom. The front side of the gatefold cover contains a 3” gold-foil embossed “The Greatest Music Ever Sold Certified ‘Best Of’ Album” sticker at the top left corner. All of the copies of this issue include the custom blue inner sleeves, containing the lyrics / credits, and the white Beatles' album discography insert. The inner gatefold photo is from the "Mad Day Out" photo session in London on Sunday, July 28th, 1968. Finding this album in a Mint factory sealed condition is extremely hard. The last photo shows both compilation albums inside a very rare official Capitol Records record store LP box. It isn’t a part of this listing and is being sold separately.
