Original 1st US pressing promotional release of Tina Brooks “True Blue” album released by Blue Note in December, 1960. This masterpiece was recorded in the hard bop style and represents the only Tina Brooks album released during his life. It was recorded on June 25, 1960 at the Van Gelder studio. In addition to Tina Brooks, the album was recorded with the participation of Freddie Hubbard, Duke Jordan, Sam Jones and Art Taylor. The back cover contains the “PREVIEW COPY” red rubber ink stamp. 1st print deep groove Blue Note labels with the BLP 4041 catalog number and “47 West 63rd NYC” address. Very early promotional pressing with the machine stamped Rudy Van Gelder’s “RVG” stamp and Plastylite pressing plant “Ear” etching in the trail-off vinyl on both sides. The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 - BN-LP-4041-A Ear RVG; Side 2 - BN-LP-4041-B Ear RVG. The album comes with the original plain white die-cut inner sleeve.

The promotional cover with the laminated front is super clean and graded as Excellent. The cover doesn’t have any wear, scuffs, soiling, writing, residue or ring wear. The front cover’s laminate is fully intact and there’re only two macroscopic creases at the mouth. The rigid spine contains a fully readable text. The back cover has some light age discoloration along the edges. The top right corner contains a white blank sticker which most likely was affixed at the radio station where this promotional copy was delivered to and was intended for DJ notes. The bottom right corner has a couple of small and barely noticeable stains. The white edges of the cover are fully intact and don’t have any splits. We grade the glossy vinyl visually as somewhere between Strong Very Good and Very Good Plus. It retains its magnificent factory lacquer but has some very light non-feelable surface hairlines and marks as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint condition. Its playback is graded as Excellent. The vinyl plays amazing having a crystal clear, atmospheric and warm Mono sound. The labels are super clean and are graded as Excellent, scuff- and wear-free, only having a few light spindle marks that can be seen under a strong light.
