STANFORD UNIVERSITY - THE 1965 BIG GAME GAIETIES -- Blue And Gold Finger -- hard to find, original 1965 U.S. album. Nifty Private Press college LP written & performed by members of the Stanford Univ. Drama Department as a James Bond 007 parody about a British exchange student named "Jim Bond" who comes to Stanford, gets involved with a secret organization named BARF, locks lips with sultry coeds named "Lotta Love" and "Bebe Gunn" and faces the diabolical computer in the Terror Room. Musical style here is "Mad Men"/Playboy Magazine-era 1960's Lounge-Pop -- song titles like "That's How To Be A Stud" and "Terror Room Music" should tell you what you're in for. The Big Game Gaieties were staged every year to commemorate the rivalry between the Stanford and UC Berkeley football teams; the title of the album refers to both rival UC Berkeley's team colors (Blue and Gold) as well as being a pun on the then-popular Bond movie GOLDFINGER. (In a curious sidenote, 1965 was the same year that then-Stanford freshman and future Presidential candidate Mitt Romney staged a secret raid on UC Berkeley in the dead of night.) Terrific James Bond/super-spy inspired cover art really captures the spirit of the times. This was pressed on the Custom Fidelity private label and sold mainly to Stanford students at the time -- copies are extremely hard to come by these days. Cover: VG++, light ring wear and wear on edges, removable price sticker upper right front. Record: VG+/VG++, light scuff on A-side which doesn't affect play, light surface wear, overall very clean, on Custom Fidelity private label, U.S. press.
