** rare original Canadian Columbia ("2-eye", "360 sound") issue on thick 140g vinyl.......NOT the more common U.S. issue on Epic .

 

Originally named "Le Triangle",  Pierre Senecal (organ, piano, flute, sax), Jerry Mercer (drums) and Rayburn Blake (guitar) were gigging & tripping on the Montreal underground club scene in the late sixties when they decided to rename themselves after a popular halucinagenic, "Mashmakhan".   Joined by Brian Edwards (bass, vocals),  they signed with Columbia and recorded two inspired Long Plays, the self-titled debut in 1969, and this their second (and last) in '71.

 

* This is the LP that features the monster progressive 10-minute track "Mr. Tree" which was not included on the 1999 CD re-issue, nor is it available on iTunes.

 

The band split up after this LP, with Jerry Mercer joining April Wine, while Blake and Edwards formed "Riverson" releasing their own folk-psych monster in 1973.
