  Columbia   CDN-2,  1972 Canada promotional Compilation  

Mega rare 10-track limited-edition compilation released by Columbia's Canadian branch and featuring 10 different artists signed to the label at the time.

 

This obscure compilation features some excellent funky pop, country rock and folk rock,  but no doubt the LP really stands out for it's inclusion of three highly-coveted Quebec prog-psych rock rarities from Roger Rodier, Contraction's Franck Dervieux and Riverson (click on names for bios, etc).

 

* a few interesting notes about this LP:

Columbia must have been in a hurry to release this compilation.   With only a short-run limited pressing, little promotion and several pressing errors, the LP never saw much in the way of sales...making it quite difficult to find today (in any condition, or version).   Promoted as a compilation of "Canadian" talent, one band, Space Opera, was in fact straight out of Texas USA, with no Canadian links at all except for the fact that they recorded their rare debut for Columbia in Toronto in 1972.   Also, some pressings of this compilation had track listings in the wrong order, and worse, some versions had entire tracks "missing" (the Riverson and Dervieux tracks, although listed, were in fact replaced by songs from other artists).   ** This superb copy has all the correct songs & track listings !
