Jerry Goldsmith's score to the ill-fated 1983 feature Twilight Zone: The Movie boasts some of the most enigmatic and otherworldly music of the composer's long career. Equal parts beauty, dissonance, and eccentricity, it remains one of the singular achievements in the Goldsmith canon. The film's anthology structure affords Goldsmith the opportunity to explore sharply contrasting musical approaches from segment to segment, and he responds with a series of wonderfully evocative suites delineated with uncommon clarity. From the shimmering Americana of "Kick the Can" to the martial intensity of "Time Out" to the harrowing drama of "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," the music possesses a formidable complexity and daring.
