Although the 1958 "Senior" was won with consummate ease by World Champion John Surtees on his M.V. 'Four', the race was nevertheless full of excitement for a titanic battle was waged throughout for the second place on the leader board. First it was occupied by Bob McIntyre (Norton) until he retired with engine trouble, whereupon John Hartle (M.V.'Four') replaced him. Shortly afterwards came drama when the latter's machine went up in flames and Alistair King (Norton) moved into second berth, only to crash on his last lap. Momentarily Bob Brown (Norton) then became second in this race of changing fortunes, only to be pipped at the post by Bob Anderson (Norton) for the runner-up postion
