Catalog Number:  424 536-1 UPC Bar Code:  0 720642 453612 This Universal UK/Geffen release was cut from a different set of master tapes from the original mainline release with a significantly different mix of the album (especially "Heart Shaped Box" and "All Apologies"). In 2003 what is believed to be the original Steve Albini mix of In Utero was issued as a vinyl-only release by Universal Records in the UK. This is believed to be the result of a mistake at the factory when the wrong master tapes were used to have the album recut.  Kurt Cobain and the band wanted the original version of the album to be released initially, but the record label insisted on significant rework to polish up the album for increased commercial viability In general the sound is more unpolished, guitar tracks sound rawer and the drums have an incredible heavy bass tone.  In particular the tracks without the additional Scott Litt mixing like "Heart shaped box", "Pennyroyal tea" and "All apologies" show obvious differences:  a guitar solo which was later replaced, different volumetric sound density and a lot of layered background tracks that were put to the back, but are foreground on this pressing.  Comes with an insert that includes photos and lyrics This is a great addition for the serious collector!
