This auction is for a first UK pressing of 'Dark Side of the Moon' by Pink Floyd as shown in the photographs and described below. Prior to listing it, I have listened to the album in full and I would grade the audio (using the UK Record Collector grading system) as close to Excellent.
This has the following first pressing attributes:
Solid blue prism on the labels and the matrix numbers are SHVL 804 A-2 and SHVL 804 B-2. The gatefold cover has a blue tinge to it (see photo 9 where I have tried to show the difference in colour between the black inner sleeve and the cover). It is glued shut at the left edge. The original inner sleeve is black with a polythene lining and has the patent numbers and 'Made in Great Britain' printed in white on one side. It comes with two original posters (one showing the band and one showing pyramids) and two Pink Floyd postcards. This is a 44 year old record and so the labels have spindle trails and a few marks, but there is no writing or stickers etc, just normal signs of play and use. The vinyl has some hairlines and surface marks but nothing bad anywhere and it is still nice and shiny. I've played the whole record and it sounds great. I heard several clicks in the heartbeat/spoken sections which introduce side one and end side two, and in the cash-till introduction before the start of 'Money', but there were very few elsewhere - just a handful of places where there were a few brief, quiet clicks, but nothing loud or persistent. There are no jumps, skips or sticking anywhere (unlike many 1st pressings of this album, this copy does NOT have the pressing fault in 'Money'). As with most Pink Floyd records, there are lots of quiet parts on this album and, inevitably, there is some background noise and a litle bit of crackle in some of these quiet sections, but the loud tracks sound brilliant. This is a great copy with only minor flaws as mentioned above and I would grade the audio as close to Excellent.
The cover has normal signs of age, use and storage, but there are no seam splits, writing, stickers, tears etc. There is some noticeable wear/ring-wear and some corner-wear, edge-wear, slight creases and a few marks and scuffs, but there is nothing bad anywhere.
The inner sleeve has split at the side seams (and these have been repaired with clear tape) and there are a couple of small tears (about an inch) around the centre holes, but overall this is a decent example. There is no split in the bottom seam.
The two posters are in decent condition. There are some marks, age spots and discolouration to the plain rear of the posters, but the picture sides look great. Under close scrutiny, there are some tiny, neat pin holes in the corners, but these are hard to spot and, as you can see from the photos, there are no tears or missing corners etc and the posters look great. The postcards have signs of age and some small marks (which you can see in the photo) but nothing bad, and no tears, creases, pin holes etc.
A nice example of this rare first pressing of an all-time classic.
