WILSON PICKETT needs little introduction to even the most casual soul fan. Suffice it to say, he was a pivotal figure in the development of American soul music and scored some 50 R&B chart hits during his 50-year career.   Pickett was born in Prattville, Alabama in 1941 but moved to Detroit in his early teens where he honed his characteristic, impassioned singing style. In 1955 he joined the Violinaires gospel group before crossing over to secular music in ’62 as a member of the Falcons and scoring his first minor hit, “I Found A Love”. Here we feature Pickett’s debut, solo, 45 “Let Me Be Your Boy”, recorded in 1961 and released in March 1962 on the Detroit Correc-Tone label. It was pressed at Columbia’s Chicago plant alongside Motown labels  Miracle, Gordy and Tamla which is quite fitting since the Supremes can be heard on backing vocals. “Let Me Be Your Boy” was subsequently released on the Cub label for wider distribution before eventually being acquired by Verve in ’66 who also gave it a UK release on their MGM imprint. Today PolyGram Records Inc (NY) control the song.    ARTHUR ALEXANDER, like Pickett, was also born in Alabama, in 1940. He is regarded as a pioneer of the country-soul genre and an accomplished songwriter, penning sides for The Beatles, Elvis, Otis Redding and Tina Turner. Here we feature Alexander’s debut disc recorded and released in 1960 on the local Judd label and attributed to “June” (short for Junior) Alexander. The label was owned by Jud Phillips, brother of Sam Phillips of Sun Records fame.  - OUTTA SIGHT   AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL OUTTA SIGHT VINYL
