SOFT MACHINE  VOLUME TWO

just what is that noise on Hibou, Anemone and Bear?....it can only be Hugh Hopper's fuzzed up fender, there is no other sound like it in Rock, Prog or Jazz. Hopper used the bass for heavy riffing, even lead lines and with Mike Ratledge using heavy distortion too, its not clear who is making what sound. But that what makes this album unique, the deconstruction of conventional instrumental hierarchies, nothing through the rest of the 70s sounded as revolutionary as this trio stepping on the fuzz pedals
