Unlike many Ebay record sellers that only offer you a visual grading, I play each and every record.
I try to give a numeric grading on a scale from 1-10 as to the sound quality of each disc.. Keep in mind that since I am not a record collector and these records nearly 120 years old, my grading may differ from serious collectors but I do take returns if successful buyers are not completely satisfied..
super song title *****
Both the record and the label show well.. No cracks, or needle digs in play surface. A few smudges only
Record plays excellent plus in my view..
The reverse side is blank except for 144-14 imprinted
Scarce 7" pre dog, Eldridge R. Johnson Victor Record # A-907 in excellent condition from the turn of the century dating no later then 1901.
This is a single sided "announced" vocal record that has extremely good sound quality and volume. The disc plays through smoothly without any issues on my wood horn Victor D phonograph using a fiber needle… Very very minor background noise which is barely noticeable.. I'm not a record collector but I would easily give it an overall rating of 8.5 out of 10.
The Improved Gram-O-Phone Record was the first run of records ever to carry a paper label but lasted only a few months. Through a court injunction, Eldridge Johnson was prohibited from using the term Gram-O-Phone on the labels of any of his so-called superior records thus the IMPROVED RECORD , was the label that remained on his disc but once again only briefly. Once he moved his operation to New Jersey, Eldridge Johnson's Consolidated Talking Machine Company reorganized and became the Victor Talking Machine Co..
This record is the early, pre dog record referring to the fact that the trademark, as seen on the label, was still listed under the Eldridge Johnson name and the nipper dog was yet to be part of the label...
From what I understand,, this Eldridge Johnson label was only used for less then a year...
Shortly after the reorganization Eldridge Johnson dropped his name from the record label and decided to use the now famous Nipper Dog logo as the Victor Record trademark..
The recording is Take No. 1 According to the Discography of American Historical Recordings (DAHR) this record dates 7/11/1901.
