Ready for some classic Beatles tracks performed LIVE? On this record we have not one or two, but three performances by the Beatles. The first five tracks were recorded at the 1964 NME Poll Winners concert on the 26th April 1964. Beatlemania was in full swing and the lads had just completed shooting their first movie A Hard Day's Night. This was their first live performance for 15 weeks and the 10,000 strong audience at the Empire Pool Wembley (now known as the Wembley Arena) witnessed The Beatles received awards (presented by Roger Moore) for 'Outstanding Vocal Group' and 'Best British Vocal Group'. The concert was broadcast two weeks later on the May 10th. The next seven tracks are from the TV show Around The Beatles. Broadcast two days after the NME show, The Beatles returned to Wembley this time to the Rediffusion Studios (studio 5AB). Arriving for rehearsals earlier in the day, not only did they perform songs, they also took part in comedy skits including a spoof of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream. Something slightly unusual musically was a medley of earlier hits and a version of Shout which is a song they never recorded for any of their albums. The TV show was broadcast in the UK on May 6th and on the 15th November in the USA. The Beatles actually 'mimed' on the show to the music they had pre-recorded on the 19th April 1964. The final five tracks are from the 1965 NME Poll Winners concert. Their second movie Help! was in the can and once again an audience of 10,000 people filled the Empire Pool Wembley on 11th April 1965. This year they received awards for 'Best World Vocal Group', 'Best British Vocal Group' and 'Best British Vocal Personality' for John. The show was broadcasted in the UK on 18th April. - Andrew Brooks
