Side A was written between the spring and fall of 2013 in Chicago, Illinois and Lawrence, Kansas. The song was recorded in Seattle, Washington on a rainy afternoon in a room with purple walls.
Side B was produced in late March just outside of Austin, Texas in the open air of the lower Greenbelt. We walked a narrow path through the foliage for half a mile until we stood on the limestone of the dry creekbed where the song was recorded
