Led Zeppelin II -  1ST PRESS 2 SIDE RL SS MONARCH HOT CUT ATLANTIC SD 8236                                    Matrix / Runout (Side A etched ):                             ST-A-691671-MO - CC RL ss LW △13933 (2) W AT                                      Matrix / Runout (Side B etched ):                              ST-A-691672-MO - AA LW AT RL ss Δ13933-X W

US 1st pressing, featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.
Labels include "MO" suffix (indicating Monarch pressing) and "Mfg By Atlantic Recording Corp., 1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y.". If this doesn't have "SS RL" etched in the run-outs then it is a repress - remastered at Atlantic, rather than Sterling Sound. ONLY around 200,000ish pressings were done of Robert Ludwig's 'high mix'
PLEASE NOTE: EVEN FROM NEW THIS VERSION BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MIX, WAS ALWAYS NOISIER THAN THE LATER VERSIONS. IN MY OPINION THERE IS VERY LITTLE CHANCE OF EVER FINDING A LUDWIG ZEPPELIN 2 IN EXCELLENT OR NEAR MINT CONDITION THAT PLAYS QUIETLY, THE REASON IS SIMPLE, THE RL CUT IS SO GOOD THAT MOST COPIES HAVE BEEN PLAYED TO DEATH. THIS WAS THE VERSION THAT WAS TAKEN TO PARTIES AS IT SOUNDS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE REGULAR MORE COMMON VERSION AND IF YOU HAD ONE FROM NEW EVEN THOUGH IT WAS STILL A LITTLE NOISY, IT WAS PLAYED, MOSTLY ON POOR 1969 RECORD PLAYERS AND WORN OUT. SO, TO FIND ONE THAT PLAYS WELL IS A FIND TO BE APPRECIATED. THE FOLLOWING COPY IS NOT MINT OR EVEN EXCELLENT BUT DIFINITELY A STRONG VG+ THAT PLAYS VG++ THE HOT MIX RECORD IS IN VG+ SHAPE WITH LIGHT HAIRLINES AND LIGHT UNFELT SCRATCHES AND SOME LIGHT SCUFFS SEEN ON SIDE 2 THAT DO NOT SOUND.  THE DYNAMICS ON THIS DISC ARE EXCELLENT, THERE IS NO OVERPOWERING SURFACE NOISE, BUT THERE IS SOME CRACKLING IN PLACES, IN FACT SIDE 2 WHICH WAS THE COMMON FAULT SIDE FOR REMIXING DUE TO THE HOT MIX, SOUNDS EXCELLENT WITH VERY LITTLE SURFACE NOISE. HEARTBREAKER SOUNDS AMAZING AND BONZOS' DRUM SOLO IS CLEAN AND BRIGHT WITH VERY LITTLE CRACKLING. AGAIN, THERE IS CRACKLING HEARD IN PLACESAFTER ALL THIS LP HAS BEEN PLAYED WELL BUT VERY WELL CARED FOR AND THE BEST COPY I HAVE HEARD IN MANY YEARS. STATIC AND CRACKLES ARE THERE, MORE OBVIOUS BETWEEN TRACKS, BUT OVERALL THIS COPY IS A MUST TO OWN ALSO, PLEASE NOTE, I HAVE CLEANED THIS WITH CLEANING LIQUID BUT NOT A GOOD DEEP CLEAN WHICH PROBABLY WOULD MAKE THIS EVEN BETTER. SO, A VERY NICE COPY THAT WILL BLOW YOUR SPEAKERS AWAY.

THE  HEAVYWEIGHT  GATEFOLD JACKET- IS IN VG+ CONDITION - VERY LIGHT RINGWEAR SEEN ON BACK - NO WRITING NO LABELS - THERE IS A 3" TOP SPLIT LP SIDE THAT I HAVE NOT FIXED AND LIGHT BUMPING TO EDGES AND CORNERS - OVERALL A NICE JACKET
SPINE IS READABLE WITH EDGE BUMPING (SEE PHOTOS)
THE LABELS ARE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE WITH NORMAL LIGHT SPINDLE MARKINGS SEEN
NOTE THIS LP INCLUDES THE ORIGINAL OFF WHITE INNER SLEEVE THAT WAS THE FIRST SLEEVE THIS RECORD WAS RELEASED IN AND THE RECORD WILL BE DELIVERED IN A STATIC FREE CLEAR SLEEVE

A VERY NICE VERY RARE RECORD RECOMMENDED

Some incredible songs on this 1967 album from composer Reid King who married the Brazilian sound with
popular music of that era to produce an album that should have really taken off then, but due to the strange
setup of Canterbury Records who were in business to lose money for a Mattel tax shelter, the album was allowed
to die on the vine by Canterbury when it started to take off with airplay and sales.  Reid King went on to become
one of the foremost composers of contemporary music for the gut-string guitar.

FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY.

Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft.  These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound.  Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.

 RECOMMENDED!

FULLY GUARANTEED!

VG+ AND VG++  - A Disc that is still in good shape, but will have some hairlines and minor superficial scratches with none deep that will not hamper play

VG   A Disc that has minor scratches, some can be felt with a fingernail and can be heard as surface noise but nothing to spoil the overall enjoyment play

VG Minus - A record that has been well enjoyed, Still playable with minor imperfections such as light scratches, visible scuffing etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded.
