P. Arnold (Patricia Ann Cole) was born in Los Angeles in 1946 and has enjoyed a long career in the music industry, establishing herself as an icon of the British MOD and Northern Soul scene. It all began in 1964 when she joined the Ike & Tina Turner Revue as an Ikette and found herself in swinging London at the height of the Mod/Psych boom. It was Mick Jagger who helped her score a recording contract with the fledgling Immediate record label and also produced her duet with Rod Stewart on the storming Mod anthem ‘Come Home Baby’. But it was her Top 20 hit ‘The First Cut Is The Deepest’ that propelled her into the spotlight, a song written and sold to her for just £30 by Cat Stevens!
