The Doors' most underrated album, possibly because there's quite a bit of relatively lighthearted material here like "Hello I Love You", "Love Street", "Wintertime Love", "Summer's Almost Gone", "Yes, The River Knows" and "We Could Be So Good Together" and this disappointed fans after the unique darkness of the first couple of albums. Yes, the songs that are darkest and seem closest to the material from those first 2 albums- namely "Not To Touch The Earth", "Five To One" and "The Unknown Soldier"- are highlights but the previously mentioned group of songs are all great as well. Special mention must be also given to the evocative "Spanish Caravan", a song unlike anything else they did, and arguably one of their best. They clearly just wanted to do something different on this album (which is understandable, especially since "When The Music's Over", though quite good, was just a *little* too similar an album closer to "The End") and they accomplished this beautifully.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ANONYMOUS ONLINE REVIEW)

The Doors' 1967 albums had raised expectations so high that their third effort was greeted as a major disappointment. With a few exceptions, the material was much mellower, and while this yielded some fine melodic ballad rock in "Love Street," "Wintertime Love," "Summer's Almost Gone," and "Yes, the River Knows," there was no denying that the songwriting was not as impressive as it had been on the first two records. On the other hand, there were first-rate tunes such as the spooky "The Unknown Soldier," with antiwar lyrics as uncompromisingly forceful as anything the band did, and the compulsively riff-driven "Hello, I Love You," which nonetheless bore an uncomfortably close resemblance to the Kinks' "All Day and All of the Night." The flamenco guitar [sssshhh, Richie, just between the two of us, this is CLASSICAL guitar, NOT flamenco] of "Spanish Caravan," the all-out weirdness of "Not to Touch the Earth" (which was a snippet of a legendary abandoned opus, "The Celebration of the Lizard"), and the menacing closer "Five to One" were also interesting. In fact, time's been fairly kind to the record, which is quite enjoyable and diverse, just not as powerful a full-length statement as the group's best albums.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY RICHIE UNTERBERGER, ALL MUSIC GUIDE  /ALLMUSIC.COM/)

Probably the most commercial and the best selling of all Doors' albums (with the possible exception of the first one), this great psych album works on many different levels: as a potent showcase of Jim Morrison's poetic prowess, as an exhibit of the band's musical proclivities, and, ultimately, as a great album by the great band at the very peak of their musical strength and popularity. There is hardly a bad or substandard track on this album, and we are certain that most of the Ebay visitors are already familiar with its contents.  Finding a still sealed original copy?!?! Forget it – not even a HOPE!!! This may be the last one you will ever see.

·                               CONDITION:

·                               THE RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records .

(b)          The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(a)          The album comes with the original October 1968 Crawdaddy magazine review of the album.

(b)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
