MEMPHIS JUG BAND [self-titled] (180g Limited Edition Double Vinyl LP, 2015)
Review from another site:
The Memphis Jug Band was formed by Will Shade (born February 5, 1898 - died September 18, 1966) and Charlie Burse (born August 25, 1901 - died December 20, 1965) in 1927 in Memphis, Tennessee.  They played the streets of Memphis before being signed with the Victor Record company.  They recorded regularly for Victor, from 1927-1930, for Champion Records in 1932, and for OKeh Records in 1934. Later, Shade and Burse recorded together on Folkways in 1956.
Musicians in the band included Charlie Burse, guitar, mandolin, vocals Jab Jones, piano, vocals, jug Charlie Pierce, violin Will Shade, harmonica, vocals Vol Stevens, mandolin, vocals Will Weldon, guitar, vocals Charlie Polk, vocals, jug Tewee Blackman, guitar Hattie Hart, vocals Charlie Nickerson, piano, vocals Ben Ramey, kazoo, vocals Milton Robie, violin Memphis Minnie, guitar, vocals Hambone Lewis, jug.
This Yazoo label collection has been the definitive release of Memphis Jug Band recordings for decades. This is a fine document of the raw and irreverent music made by this historic, fun-loving jug band. The included recordings span 1927 to 1934.  This is the band that defined the genre. Anybody who is a fan of early blues needs to own a Memphis Jug Band release.
