Following the demise of the Graham Bond Organization, British saxophonist / keyboardist / vocalist / composer Graham Bond left the UK for a brief residency in US, where he recorded two little known solo albums, of which this was the first. Bond was probably the most influential figure on the British music scene in the mid-1960s, when he led a group consisting of the finest musicians in the land, which practically invented Jazz-Rock Fusion. Sadly his troubled personal life, which included mental instability and heavy drug abuse, prevented him from achieving the success he so richly deserved and eventually led to his tragic death. But his recorded legacy is with us forever and everything he recorded is worthy of attention. Bond played all the instruments on this album, except for the drums which were played by Hal Blaine, and composed all the music / wrote all the lyrics. The material is amazing, as always, with heavy Jazz influence, but also Rhythm And Blues and Soul references. Bond plays some extraordinary organ parts and his vocals are also excellent, probably the best vocal parts he ever recorded. This material was not available on the market for over 40 years. A must to the numerous Bond fans, wherever they might be.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ANONYMOUS ONLINE REVIEW)

Love Is the Law is the first of the two LPs Graham Bond recorded for the Pulsar label in the late '60s after his move to the United States, and is the better of the pair by a wide margin. There's  substantial pleasure -- if that's the right word to use for a musician with such a demonic vocal, instrumental, and compositional flavor -- to be had from Bond's consistently spooky blues-rock organ and Mellotron. If his vocals are a bit croaky, and his lyrics (where odes to free love dovetail with dread and the occult) a bit creepy, that's part of the reason the music stands out even from the eclectic palette of late-'60s rock; there's nothing else quite like it, even if it might not be his best work. The title track and "The World Will Soon Be Free" are certainly among the absolute highlights of his post-Organisation discography, and if the remake of "Our Love Will Come Shining Through" isn't up to the level of the great obscure mid-'60s U.K. 45 on which he first issued the song, it's still pretty good. If some of the lyrics seem a bit awkward and confused in their confluence of naïve romanticism and ominous foreboding, they're made up for by some quite groovy blues-jazz organ riffs. Bond fans will find it worthwhile to seek out this rare LP.

·                                     CONDITION:

·                                     THE RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)           WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)           The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                                     THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-          Cover has some writing on its back side (initials of the previous owner written in thick green marker, about ½ x 1 inch in size)

-          Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-          Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging. (nothing significant)

-          The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the front side  (nothing significant)

-          Minor shelf wear noted on the top and bottom seams (nothing significant)

-          Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (BARELY VISIBLE)

-          Minor water stain noted on the back panel (less than 1/2 square inch in size)

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
