****************************************************************

This is an original mono 1st pressing bought in the UK at the time of first release. It is not a reissue.

This has the following 1st press matrix numbers, 1st mothers and 1st stampers:

Side one: XAX 3419-2                 1             G

Side two: XAX 3420-1                 1              G

You cannot get an earlier one! This is one of the very first copies of the first pressing of Pink Floyd's first album!

Description
Disc: The vinyl has various marks and signs of use. It visually grades around Good. I have played the entire record from start to finish on dedicated mono equipment* and generally it plays above its visual grade. There are some clicks, crackle and background noise, but nothing which ever overpowers the music. For side one there is nothing more to add, and much of side one would play-grade around Excellent (Ex), but taking everything into account I would play-grade side one as a fairly SAFE Very Good Plus (VG+) overall. Side two isn't quite as good as side one, with a few more clicks and crackles, but for the most-part side two would play-grade around Very Good (VG). However, there is a skip near the end of 'Interstellar Overdrive' as it goes back into the main riff (although I think that someone who didn't know the track world probably not notice this skip); and there is also a skip about halfway through 'Chapter 24'. Aside from these two skips side two play-grades around Very Good (VG), but because of them I'm play-grading side two as Fair.

Labels: No tears, stickers, writing etc, just some relatively light spindle marking.

Sleeve: The 1st press sleeve (with no 'File Under . . .' on the top flipback) has no tears, splits or major issues and is a well-above-average example of this true first press sleeve. It has a few laminate creases on the front, mainly near the opening and top edge, and some minor creasing on the unlaminated rear and flipbacks, but this is much better than most copies I've seen.

Inner sleeve: No splits or tears, but has some stains, creases and signs of age.

*This is a mono record. Based on the assumption that anybody buying this record to play it, will have the right equipment to listen to it, I have play-graded this record on dedicated mono equipment. The play-grade and description is based on how this record sounds when played on mono equipment. Playing a mono record on stereo equipment will result in a lower grading.

Detracting features not covered above:  None.

The gradings given are based on the UK Record Collector grading system (see below).

I use the UK RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM. This grading system differs from some other grading systems, in particular the Goldmine grading system. Please make sure that you are familiar with the UK record collector grading system before you bid.

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

Plus (+) or Minus (-) are added where items fall between gradings. I only ever use one plus or minus.
