Cat Stevens (English: Cat Stevens) is the former stage name of English musician Yusuf Islam (July 21, 1948 - ).

He is a London-born singer, songwriter, educator, and philanthropist, also known as a convert to Islam.

As Cat Stevens, he has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide since the late 1960s.

Stevens' albums "Father and Son" and "Teaser and Firecat" each sold over 3 million copies in the United States alone and were certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The follow-up, "Catchable at Four," sold 500,000 copies in its first two weeks in the U.S. and held the top spot on Billboard magazine's album chart for three consecutive weeks.

His work has been recognized with two ASCAP Songwriting Awards, as the song "The First Cut Is The Deepest" was a hit with four different artists.

In 1977, at the height of his glory, Stevens converted to Islam. The following year he changed his name to Yusuf Islam and left the music industry to devote himself to educational and charitable causes in the Muslim community.

Twenty-eight years later, in 2006, he returned to popular music and released an album entitled An Other Cup.

He has received several awards for his work for world peace, including the Man for Peace Award in 2004 and the Mediterranean Prize for Peace in 2007.

He currently lives with his wife and five children in London's Bronsbury Park and spends a time each year in Dubai.
