This is an original 1st pressing with 1E/1E matrix numbers (not 2E as most so-called first pressings have) and it is in exceptional condition throughout, with immaculate vinyl and one of the cleanest original Station to Station covers I've ever seen. I think this would be hard to beat.
Please note that the cover and insert both have the original very dark-red text. On later copies this text is lighter and has a warmer, more-orange tone. Because it is so hard to find original covers in great condition sellers often pair up early vinyl with the later covers.
This copy is 100% original and correct first press throughout.
Description
Disc: The vinyl looks virtually flawless with almost nothing to see. Even under bright, direct light there is barely a mark to be seen. It visually grades as a VERY SAFE Near Mint (NM). I have played the entire record and the audio lives up to expectations, with superb clarity and near-silence between tracks. The only thing I heard was five or six very small clicks in the the train-noise intro at the beginning of the album, but after that it was absolutely perfect and I would say it plays Mint, but because it has been played and because of those few small clicks at the very beginning I would play-grade side one as a SAFE Excellent Plus (Ex+) and side two as Near Mint (NM).
Labels: No tears, stickers, writing etc, and minimal spindle marking suggesting that the record was hardly ever played.
Sleeve: The white, matt sleeve for Station to Station can be very hard to find looking great, but this is easily one of the cleanest I've seen. Please note that this is a true first press cover with very dark-red text. There are a handful of very, very minor issues, but the only significant thing to mention is a very neat (nearly invisible) repair at the top seam, where the surface print has been 'stressed' by the edge of the disc (but this is NOT an actual split). I've shown this close-up in several photos at the end, but I do not think that anyone would notice it unless they were actively looking for it. Aside from this, I would say that this cover is as near to perfect as you are likely to find on an original copy of Station to Station.
Insert: Beautifully clean with no issues. Please note that this is the original matt insert with very dark-red text. It has just a slight hint of a corner crease but nothing significant anywhere.
Inner sleeve: The original RCA inner sleeve date coded 12-75 is in amazing condition. It has no splits or tears and minimal signs of use.
Detracting features not covered above: None. I think it would be hard to find a genuine 1E/1E first pressing that looks and sounds better than this.
All photographs are of the actual item for sale. Please ask any questions before you bid or buy.
Where gradings are given these are based on the UK Record Collector grading system (see below) and are visual gradings only, unless the listing specifically states that it is a play-grading.
I use the UK RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM. This grading system differs from some other grading systems, in particular the Goldmine grading system. Please make sure that you are familiar with the UK record collector grading system before you bid.
Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
Plus (+) or Minus (-) are added where items fall between gradings. I only ever use one plus or minus.
