Matrix / Runout (Runout side A, stamped, variant 1): XARL-6619-1A Matrix / Runout (Runout side B, stamped, variant 1): XARL-6620-2ANOTES ON BLIND MAN TEXT CONTROVERSY
The then Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham created some shudders down the spines of the establishment with his sleeve notes on the reverse of the cover. The notes, written in the style of A Clockwork Orange, jokingly encouraged fans to knock over blind men and steal their wallets to get the cash to buy the record.
A month after the January 1965 release, a Mrs Gwen Matthews, secretary of the Bournemouth Blind Aid Association, rather took offence to the suggestion that the blind might be a ready source of income for impoverished Stones fans who needed to raise cash to buy the album. Mrs Matthews was quoted in the press saying “They’re horrible. It’s putting ideas into people’s heads. I’m writing to Decca to ask them to change the cover.”
The subject was even raised in the House of Lords – Lord Conesford asked the Director of Public Prosecutions whether the sleeve constituted “a deliberate incitement to criminal action”.
.Produced by Andrew Loog Oldham for Impact Sound.
First cat.nr. on cover, second on label. First pressing with ''unboxed'' red/silver Decca label with the ear logo at 2 o'clock. Upper label rim states ''Made in England''. Blind man text. CONDITIONRECORD IS VERY NEAR MINT, LOVELY WITH A DEEP GLOSSY LIKE NEW RAINBOW SHEEN TO THE VINYL SURFACES WHICH ARE CLEAN AND BRIGHT. OBVIOUSLY PLAYED MAYBE 2-3 TIMES IN THE LAST 58 YEARS, AMAZING FINAL UPGRADE !!!
I CAN ONLY SEE ONE TINY VERY FEINT SLEEVE REMOVAL / HAIRLINE IN TOTAL ACROSS BOTH SIDES, BUT ONLY WHEN VINYL IS TILTED, UNDER A STRONG LIGHT NO EFFECT AT ALL ON AUDIO PLAYBACK, (SEE PICS)
CENTRE LABELS ARE IN SUPERB CONDITION (SEE PICS) WITH JUST A COUPLE OF VERY VERY FEINT TINY SPINDLE MARKS (ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE ) CONFINED TO THE DISC CENTRE EACH SIDE , FURTHUR CONFIRMATION OF VERY FEW PLAYS SINCE 1965 !! SUPERB SHOP FRESH CONDITION
THEREFORE OBVIOUSLY , A GREAT AUDIO EXPERIENCE WHEN PLAYTESTED ON MY REGA TURNTABLE, TINY STATIC AT RUN INS ONLY, LOVELY PLAYBACK !!!
THE OUTER LAMINATED SLEEVE IS EXCELLENT + TO NEAR MINT ON THIS RARE COPY, PERFECT LEGIBLE SPINE, MINIMAL LAMINATE CREASING,NO AGING OR PEN MARKS, TINY HANDLING & RING RUB FOXING ON REAR. ALMOST LOOKS AS GOOD AS THE DAY IT BOUGHT IN 1965 !! AMAZING CLEAN EXAMPLE !!
THE CORRECT FIRST PRESS POLYLINED INNER SLEEVE IS ALSO EXCELLENT TO NEAR MINT, MINOR AGE FOXING, NO SPLITS,
LOVELY DUE TO ONLY LEAVING THE OUTER SLEEVE ON A FEW OCCASSIONS !!
A REALLY LOVELY CLEAN EXAMPLE !! SEE ALL PICS
