Burrell and company are all dialed in for this moderately relaxed but moving lp. Guitar forward while balanced, this feels good for later night drinks or cocktails anytime, evening wind-downs, and gentle easing into weekend mornings. Side one is quietly assertive and never lags, opening well with Mother-In-Law pulling you in right away and slowing down the most for a solo take of People by Burrell. Side two kicks into higher gear with Suzy, providing a bluesy solo from Richard Wyans on piano and highlighting drummer Oliver Jackson, who fills in a burst of band drop outs. There's also a notable section used regularly on NPR. The title track is great, and La Petite Mambo is another faster finger snapper with Burrell laying down a swinging solo that, for him, is practically rocking. Martin Rivera's bass is solid throughout the proceedings and has great tone. Still, even when brisk and up, there's a underlying coolness to everything here. As someone with a good selection of Kenny Burrell albums at hand, this one lands on my player more than most.

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

 

(b)         The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

 

(c)         The record is  apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

 

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

 

 

·      THE COVER

 

THE COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP;  HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS VG++

 

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

 

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles (air bubbles) along the opening side, on both sides; the paper slick has separated (unglued) from the cardboard base in that section

 

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

 

-       Minor shelf wear noted on the opening side (nothing significant)

 

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

 

-       Cover has one corner slightly worn / dinged (just a beginning of the split seam)
