ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome LP – a still-sealed copy – from RCA (LSC-3212, US pressing, label iteration unknown – presumably Red Seal label, stereo) features conductor Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra in brilliant accounts of two lesser-known 20th Century masterpieces.

The exact contents are as follows:

William Schuman: Symphony No. 9 (The Adreatine Caves)

            > rec. on 27 May 1969

(producer: John Pfeiffer / engineer: Edwin Begley)

Vincent Persichetti: Sinfonia Janiculum Op. 113 (Symphony No. 9)

            > rec. on 16 March 1971

(producer: Max Wilcox / engineer: Paul Goodman)

It would be difficult to surpass either performance, Ormandy and the “Fabulous Philadelphians” playing them with a magnificient verve and finish as if they were standard repertoire works.

There are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by John Briggs, Progam Annotator of The Philadelphia Orchestra. The striking cover art was executed by Victor Atkins.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the still-sealed jacket is EXCELLENT. Though still truly sealed, there is minor bumping at corners, but that is all. Otherwise, the album appears almost as new – overall, a fine collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP itself is MINT. This is a still-sealed, unplayed copy – the ideal collector’s copy.
