About Summoner ----
SUMMONER / PHOENIX  LP
Magnetic Eye Records
Catalog No. MER009
(release date: July 24, 2012)

ALBANY-- Known throughout the Northeast for their powerful live shows, Boston’s SUMMONER adds to their reputation as a live act with the release of their new record PHOENIX, a finely crafted slab of stoner-rock sonic power recorded at Massachusetts’ famed Q-Division studios and slated for a vinyl release on Albany, NY’s Magnetic Eye Records on July 24th.
Earlier in their career SUMMONER released an EP under the name RIFF CANNON, an apt moniker considering the driving nature of their take on music: lyrical-yet-ominous guitar lines set against drilling, brutally propulsive rhythms, all topped off with the siren-like wail of singer Chris Johnson’s tales of heroic mythical battles, dystopian worlds and lonely pilgrimages to far off lands of wonder, terror and magic.
Formed in 2007 in Boston, Massachusetts by AJ Peters, Joe Richner, Chris Johnson and Scott Smith, SUMMONER’s influences range from classic hard rock pioneers Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy and Hawkwind to modern stoner/sludge bands like Torche, Queens of the Stone Age and Dead Meadow.
PHOENIX , the band’s modern take on the best of hard rock, comes in a beautifully realized 180g vinyl edition featuring artwork by Alyssa Maucere & German illustrator Alex Von Wieding. Get your copy now at the MER site. If digital is more your style, head over to iTunes and download a ‘deluxe edition’ (which includes PHOENIX plus 8 additional tracks from the band’s debut release titled MERCURY MOUNTAIN).
Look for SUMMONER on the East Coast this summer as they hit the road in support of Phoenix.
