ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome and fascinating LP from RCA Victrola (VICS-1239, English Decca pressing, plub/silver label, stereo, original inner sleeve included, front laminated jacket) features one of the more valuable titles from the label’s “The New Music” series, this installment preserving 4 stunning performances by conductor Bruno Maderna and the Rome Symphony Orchestra.
The exact contents are as follows, with timings shown in parenthesis:
Karlheinz Stockhausen: Kontra-Punkte for 10 Instruments (11:36)
> with Frederick Rzewski, pianist
Krzysztof Penderecki: Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima (9:44)
Earle Brown: Available Forms I for Chamber Ensemble (8:50)
Henri Posseur: Rimes pour Différentes Sources Sonores (13:45)
Incidentally, the striking cover art was designed by Decca’s Publicity Arts Department. There are superlative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Massimo Mila, printed in English only. First issued in 1967, this album remains a landmark in 20th Century Music.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD There is some shelfwear and discoloration, more so to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, owners' markings or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring CD silent surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
