This copy of AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE is the second pressing from 1968-69 with the two-color label: dark orange top with a steamboat and a lighter orange bottom. One of the greatest albums of 1967, a year filled with great albums and a landmark in recorded psychedelia. GRADING THIS RECORD

:

Jacket visual grade assessment: VG+. The jacket is flat with reasonably squared corners and retains much of the luster on the front cover. There is noticeable wear on the gatefold jacket.

Labels visual grade assessment: NM.

Record visual grade assessment: NM.

GRADING EXPLAINED

:

I use traditional grading terms (including half-grades with plus and minus signs) and my definition of those grades are modified and simplified versions of those found in the almost universal Goldmine standard of grading. Which I wrote when Ronald Reagan was President.

Mint Minus (M-)

•  Jackets are like new.
•  Records are like new and should play almost perfectly. I reserve this grade for records that I believe not to have been played at all.

Near Mint (NM)

•  Jackets have very clean front and back covers with square edges and almost no sign of wear.
•  Records have very clean labels and very clean vinyl with little sign of handling. Should play almost perfectly.

Very Good Plus (VG+)

•  Jackets have very clean front and back covers with reasonably square edges. Usual problem is used appearance with some wear, usually ring-wear on the front cover.
•  Records have very clean labels and very clean vinyl with used appearance that shows obvious play and handling. No signs of abuse. Plays fine but probably with some background noise.

Very Good (VG)

•  Jackets have reasonably clean front and back covers with reasonably square edges. Usual problem is well-used appearance with lots of wear, especially on the front cover.
•  Records have reasonably clean labels and clean vinyl with well-used appearance that shows considerable play and handling. Plays fine but with background noise.

PRICING THIS RECORD

:

Each record has a Buy It Now asking price based on research of what the item has sold for in the recent past. Along with recent eBay sales, I use my forty years of experience and what I believe to be my own common sense. Needless to say, I would like to realize this asking price but I will certainly entertain offers for less because first and foremost I want to sell the item!

PHOTOS EXPLAINED:

Regarding the slight bulge on the left and right sides of the photo of the album jacket on this page: it’s a normal jacket with normal dimensions. The bulge was caused by how I photographed the album. Hey, I am not much of a photographer and I am taking the pictures on a copy-stand. I didn’t understand that I had to set the camera for extreme close-ups which would not have caused the distortion that gives the image a fisheye look (think Rubber Soul).

All photos are part of the description of the item for sale. Use the description assigned the jacket and the record above and compare them to what you see in the photos to the left side of this page.

FEEDBACK AND INSURANCE:

If for any reason you feel you cannot leave positive feedback and/or all fives on the Detailed Seller Ratings, please contact me as soon as possible so I can address whatever issues there may be.

I reserve the right to cancel bids or offers when I cannot insure the shipment.

ABOUT ME

:

Hello! My name is Neal Umphred. For those eBayers who are unfamiliar with my name—and I assume that is most of you—I am the author of the original line of Goldmine price guides for record collectors, which were published way back in the 20th century. I have also been selling collectable records in the mail for more than thirty years, starting in Goldmine magazine where I advertised as Pet Sounds Records.

Because my name is known by long-time buyers, it is included in the main title of each of my eBay advertisements. That way, people who have known me and my work for years can find me via eBay’s search feature.

Please keep in mind that as I have been off of eBay for a looooooong time, I have no seller's feedback, I did once, I don't now.

MY BLOGS:

Right now I am writing and running several blogs—as none of them are commercial sites, none of them compete in any way with eBay. Here are my current sites (with each title hyperlinked to that site) with a brief description of each blog.

contains articles on popular music, especially sixties rock and soul; record collecting in general, including tips on grading and buying and selling records in the mail; anything peripheral that I consider relevant (like underground newspapers of the late 1960s and early '70s); and I even throw in some stuff on sixties comic books, too.

contains articles dealing almost exclusively with Elvis Presley, and focuses on the music he made and the records he sold. I even throw in some stuff on record-related memorabilia and his movies, too.

contains articles on a wide variety of subjects, including anecdotes from a life reasonably well lived, topics of interest, and lots of progressive politics and me ranting against the vast rightwing conspiracy. Not for the faint of heart . . .

      Payment and Shipping

PAYMENT TERMS:

Payments are due IMMEDIATELY by PayPal and will be considered late if not paid within FOUR DAYS. I will only ship to the address provided by your PayPal account. Your Confirmed Address is automatically provided to me as part of the PayPal user agreement. This procedure protects both of us.

SHIPPING TERMS:

United States: First disc $4 (each additional disc $1.00).

Canada: First disc $13 (each additional disc $4.00).

Worldwide: First disc $19 (each additional disc $5.00).

MULTIPLE PURCHASES/COMBINED SHIPPING:

I offer discounted shipping fees for more than one record per shipment ordered during a seven-day period (Monday through Sunday). Take advantage of the discount by buying more than one record: after you order the first item, you will automatically receive an electronically generated invoice from eBay.

Contact me immediately and we can put off your payment until the finalization of all transactions between us. I will hold all items until the following Sunday and then invoice you for the cost of all the items plus the discounted shipping of all those items in one package.

That way, we will be honoring all of eBay’s rules and regulations determining transactions for both the seller and the buyer.

As this is my first time on eBay in years, I am limited as to the amount of items that I can offer. Nonetheless, I will have a large variety of records up for sale in the next few days, so keep your eyes on my ads and take advantage of the discounted shipping fees! In fact, why not consider making me one of your favorite sellers here on eBay.

International shipments may not exceed four pounds (4 lb. or 1.8 kg) per parcel.

I cannot be responsible for postal transit time. I will offer expedited shipping options if you ask.

1st Class International Mail is VERY SLOW and there is usually no tracking. Some items can take three weeks or more to arrive, frequently due to delays by your local Customs or Tax Office. Tracking is available with more expensive services like Express Mail.

FEEDBACK:

Right about now I would like to say something like, "Check my feedback because I'm lightning fast and reliable." But I can't as I have no feedback . . . yet.
