MY GRADING SCALE
Here’s how I grade my vinyl:
SS - Still Sealed - The record is assumed to be in Mint condition, as it is has not
been opened. I will explain any cut-outs, hole punches, notches, shrink
wrap tearing or any type of damage (such as creasing, bent corners, etc.). The record is assumed to be in Mint
condition, as it is has not been opened. I will explain any cut-outs,
hole punches, notches, shrink wrap tearing or any other type of damage
(such as creasing, bent corners, etc.).
NM - Near Mint - Cover/Sleeve is in fantastic shape. If the vinyl cover does not have shrink wrap, it has high gloss and has only the very slightest signs of wear/handling. The record shows very little signs of play and literally no wear...as close as it gets to just being opened. Only a few Records/Covers will receive this grade, as it should rightfully rarely be used.
EX - Excellent - Vinyl covers may contain some noticeable corner bumps, hairline creases, and/or light scuffing, and 45 sleeves may contain some light bends/creases. The record shows little signs of play and/or wear. It will most likely have some very light surface marks. It is a very nice record for listening and/or collecting.
VG+ - Very Good Plus – Vinyl covers may have small creases and/or corner bumps/rubs/bends. The cover’s spine/edges may show a small amount of flaking, and some noticeable ringwear could be present. The 45 sleeve may have slight tears and/or creases with some possible small seam splits. There will be signs of wear on the record, and it will likely have scuffs and/or light surface marks and/or some possible light surface scratches. This is a record that has been nicely kept, and it should give a good listening experience.
VG - Very Good - The LP cover will most likely have noticeable ringwear and/or creasing. Any seam splitting will be mentioned in the auction. Also, spine/edge flaking may be more extensive than VG+. There may be some discoloration/staining evident on the cover, but the damage will not severely deface it. The 45 sleeve may contain tears, seam splits and/or creases, but the sleeve should still be intact and presentable. It could also have discoloration/stains. The record may contain surface scuffs/scratches, but there are no ‘feeler’ scratches to cause skipping. There may be surface noise with the record, but it should never overpower the music.
