Extremely rare 'Quadraphonic' test pressing of one of David Gates' finest Lps....'First', released in 1973 as a regular(Stereo) pressing and then shortly after in 'Quad'. There is hardly a weak song on this album and includes some stellar musicians including, Mike Botts (from Bread), Larry Knetchel (co-producer), Larry Carlton, Jim Gordon, and many more....I have always preferred the 'Quad' version of this record because even if one is not listening in 'quad', the songs have a different mix and certain instruments stand out more; and in my opinion, the songs sound much more "open" and detailed with greater separation of instruments. This being a genuine test pressing from one of the first metal masters, the details and differences are even more pronounced.
Condition of Gatefold Jacket: Excellent....showing some mild age discoloration and some inoffensive corner wear. Jacket is made of stiff, thick, sturdy cardboard.
Condition of Record: Near Mint- .....there is hardly a mark to be seen....maybe one or two very, very faint hairlines. Almost looks unplayed.
Matrix Numbers: Side A EQ 5066 A-1 PRC MY -1-1
Side B EQ 5066 B-1 PRC MY -1-1
Both matrix numbers are hand etched in the deadwax areas of the record.
I will always combine shipping.
