ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP, a still-sealed copy, from RCA Victrola (VIC-1476, US pressing, label iteration unknown, mono – issued 1969) entitled “The Art of Emanuel Feuermann” features the legendary cellist in four late recordings, one of which boasts the added presence of William Primrose. Also joining Feuermann is the splendid pianist Franz Rupp, Fritz Kreisler's accompanist.
Feuermann plays with astounding virtuosity and technical finish, yet not without warmth. These recordings are discographic landmarks and anyone who cares about the art of the cello will surely treasure these amazing musical and historical documents – stunning!
Included are the following works:
Mendelssohn: Cello Sonata No. 2 in D Major Op. 58 – with pianist Franz Rupp
> rec. 12/13 December 1939
Handel (arr. Feuermann): Adagio and Allegro from the Organ Concerto in G minor Op. 4 No. 3 – with pianist Franz Rupp
> rec. 12/14 December 1939
Beethoven: Duo in E-flat Major for Viola and Cello ("and Two Obbligato Eyeglasses) – with violist William Primrose
> rec. 29 August 1941
Beethoven: 12 Variations on 'Ein Madchen oder Weibchen' from Mozart's The Magic Flute – with Franz Rupp, pianist
> rec. 31 July 1939
Incidentally, the cover photo of Feuermann was supplied by Culver Pictures, Inc. There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Irving Kolodin, Music Editor of The Saturday Review (printed in English only). This reissue was prepared for RCA by Robert Zarbock.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is NM-. Although this is a truly sealed copy, there is slight bumping at corners, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, this rates as a truly excellent collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is MINT. This is a still-sealed, unplayed copy – the ideal collector’s copy.
