"I find it singularly interesting that Montgomery had not heard the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band when he recorded his album. So his attitude toward A Day in the Life, which is one of the selections in Pepper, is entirely unifluenced, entirely his own. Oddly enough, he might never have done A Day in the Life had he heard the Beatles' version, for he would have had no truck with a number banned by the BBC on the grounds that it is socially destructive. "
