BING CROSBY, BOB HOPE - Vintage 1946 "ROAD TO UTOPIA" - 3 record Album - 78rpm DECCA
This is the original record soundtrack to the popular Paramount picture "ROAD TO UTOPIA," one of the series of comedy films known as "Road Pictures" starring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. These films serve as priceless time capsules of the comic chemistry between this pair of clowns who, along with a few writers, came up with any line or gag possible to steal a laugh. And the plot and setting are trampled whenever they get in the way of that laugh.
The songs in "ROAD TO UTOPIA" were written by the hit-maker team of Johnny Burke (lyrics) and James Van Heusen (music) and are all sung by pop icon Bing Crosby here. "Personality" became both a smash hit and a pop standard.
BONUS: This album was issued with a perk of sorts. Included in addition to the film above, are recordings of two songs by the same writers but for a previous "Road Picture" entitled "ROAD TO MOROCCO" and performed here by Bing and Bob Hope together. They're a crack-up. "ROAD TO MOROCCO" was a comedy so riotous that a remake was attempted many years later..."ISHTAR" which didn't hit its mark. The words to the theme song below sum it up: "We certainly do get around. Like Webster's Dictionary, we're Morocco-bound"...
