78 RPM Beethoven Symphony 7 Stokowski Philadelphia 1927 Victor M-17 (SOME DAMAGE)

 +VICTOR LOGO SIDE $5

CAVEAT: SOME MINOR DAMAGE TO EDGES OF 2 SIDES. THINK OF THIS REALLY AS A SOURCE OF SPARE DISCS AND A COOL STAMPED VICTOR LOGO DISC AND NOT A 100% INTACT DOCUMENT. There is a chip of several grooves missing from the surface on the edge of Side 7 ( first few bars of beginning Mvt. 3), and Side 9 (beginning Mvt 4) that goes right up to the first groove (SEE PHOTOS). Otherwise discs are Good condition, fairly clean and quiet, some distortion on some peaks on Sides 1 & 6, but might be my stylus. Beyond a few missing seconds, it’s an enjoyable performance— a great snapshot of really cool old performance standards you’d never hear today (great portamento stuff in the 2nd movement etc.), not to mention the inimitable Stokowski touch and offered here at rock bottom prices. Roomy sound but strong level, probably experimenting with mic placement, I dunno, but the sound is very crisp and transparent 1927 vintage Victor warm with a particular grain and great atmosphere with only a faint layer of surface noise and ticks over it.

Disc 1 features a full-sided talk by Stokowski with piano introducing key themes of the symphony, the other side blank, bearing one of Victor’s impressive etched logo designs.

Payment preferred via PayPal, though I accept check or money order if you are OK with the longer turnaround time for shipment. I do not do VISA, M/C, AmEx or any of the other payment options regardless of what it might show here.

Shipping within U.S. via USPS Media Mail. This includes tracking, but not insurance. Insurance, if desired, can be purchased in addition to Media Mail rate—please inquire if interested.  I ship internationally. International buyers: shipping will obviously be different from U.S. rates, so please inquire about rates to your location and I can calculate postage for you.

All sales final, no refunds or returns.  I am an experienced and careful packer and take all reasonable precautions to ensure that your disc will arrive in one piece; I have never had a complaint about broken discs—if damage should occur, it would most likely be the result of fairly extraordinary effort on the part of the delivery service.

I can of course combine multiple winning bids into one shipment, in which case we can get in touch to recalculate postage after all auctions close.

Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
