Sale provides a unique and exceedingly rare opportunity, for beginners and established collectors of rare vinyl alike, to acquire an unplayed single sided promotional copy of Equinoxe Part 5 by Jean Michel Jarre. Pressed in 1978 on the Polydor label, this near mint vinyl record in it's original Polydor bag, was acquired by the seller whilst working for the record company; in London during the late 1970's. As a promotional copy, marked "not for resale", this record was never played and has never been played since acquisition by the seller. Visually, the playing surface of the record is unblemished, as anyone wishing to finally play this rare record would soon discover. Having been stored for many years, together with other rare records currently for sale on ebay and now forming part disposal of my own vast library of original 7" and 12" singles, EP's and albums, accumulated over many years, this is a reluctant sale of a truly treasured possession and a one-off opportunity to acquire this must-have addition to any seriously advanced vinyl record collection. Sale provides a golden opportunity for any fans of Jean Michel, or indeed, anyone wishing to acquire original Rock memorabilia, or just generally interested in the electronic music of the 1970's. In addition and what makes this disc unique, is that the blank B Side has been inscribed, "EQUINOXE NOVEMBER 1978 Jean Michel Jarre", during the manufacturing process. Although extremely difficult to photograph, due to the reflective nature of the disc, I have attempted to show the inscription in the photographs supporting the sale. The starting price for this auction reflects the promotional aspect and rare condition of the disc in it's original Polydor bag, which other than minimal handling wear, is also in terrific condition. So don't delay, start bidding, as I am confident that this incredibly rare and possibly, "one-off", single sided record, will not last very long; particularly with the B Side etching.
For the technically minded ebayers amongst us, factory stampings and/or hand etchings on the centre "mirror" areas of the disc are as follows: A Side - Equinoxe Part 5 Jarre A//1 - inverted pyramid shape - E420 - factory stamped during the manufacturing process B Side - Blank Jarre 1 B//1 - factory stamped during the manufacturing process and inscription EQUINOXE NOVEMBER 1978 Jean Michel Jarre As a footnote, the 420 suffix indicates that the record was cut and pressed at the Philips Phonodisc plant (later Polygram) based in Walthamstow, London E4
