A disco & electro-funk song, her vocals are electronically manipulated, with the lyrics having political & social undertones & reiterating the uniting power of music. Before official release, it was leaked onto the internet & put up for listening on various websites, which prompted her team to issue a statement threatening legal action. Music had different release formats with various remixes commissioned. Critics praised its production, catchiness & club-friendly nature. A commercial success, it hit #1 on the Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, Switzerland, the UK & the USA charts. It was her 12th #1 single on the USA Billboard Hot 100 Chart & was her longest running #1 on the USA Dance Club Songs Chart (5 weeks at the top). It has been included in many critic lists for Madonna's top singles & is often ranked as 1 of the best songs of the 2000s.
