This Hendrix family-authorized compilation is my favorite Jimi Hendrix box set. It includes a wealth of unreleased material not only from his Experience and post-Experience days, but also his pre-fame years as a sideman to the likes of the Isley Brothers and Little Richard. The box includes 8 heavyweight records in 8 near-mint album covers and a beautiful 36-page album-size booklet. The outer box is one imperfection shy of being near-mint: one of the short "corner edges" is very slightly wrinkled and peeling.
There are 16 sides of music on heavyweight vinyl in this box set, and the overall sound quality is, in my opinion, excellent. Visually, though, you can see some surface scuffing when viewed in bright side light (though you have to look harder to see it on some sides than on others). On side 2 there's also a thin surface "scratch" from the end of track 1 to the beginning of track 3 that has no effect on the sound. Are there some occasional ticks and pops on these 16 sides of vinyl? Yes, there are. But unless you're a fanatic about there being any surface noise, I think you'll find the overall listening experience very satisfactory (as I did). I also think these records would probably benefit from a good "professional" cleaning, but I don't have the equipment to do that anymore.
