Item Title Description "The Magic Princess Minky Momo" is a Japanese magical girl anime that was broadcast in 1982 and 1991, produced by Ashi Productions. It was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama, with Takashi Shudo handling the original concept and composition.
The story revolves around Minky Momo, a girl from the Dreamland, who uses the power of magic to transform into an adult and actively protects people's dreams. The first series aired from 1982 to 1983, comprising 63 episodes on the TV Tokyo network. Momo, a 12-year-old girl accompanied by three animal companions – Inu, Tori, and Saru – encounters various incidents in each episode, transforming into an 18-year-old professional using magic and working to remind Earth's inhabitants of dreams and hope. The series was popular among young girls and gained praise for its innovative style, including unconventional elements in the magical girl genre. Minky Momo's transformation scenes, combining spells and dance, later influenced subsequent works. Along with "Magical Angel Creamy Mami," it contributed to the formation of the second wave of magical girl anime.
The second series aired from 1991 to 1992 on the Nippon Television network, with 62 episodes, later retitled as "The Magic Princess Minky Momo: Embracing Dreams." This installment serves as a legitimate sequel set approximately 12 years after the first series, introducing a second Minky Momo from the sunken dream and magic land of "Marinnersa." While maintaining the structure of the previous series, the narrative incorporates real-world social issues, resulting in a more profound and weighty storyline.
Among fans, it is customary to distinguish between the two series and their respective protagonists by referring to the first as "Sora Momo" (Sky Momo) and the second as "Umi Momo" (Sea Momo). Shipping Japan Post
