Old & In the Way was a bluegrass group formed in 1973. It was composed of (guitar, vocals), (fiddle), (banjo, vocals), (mandolin, vocals), and John Kahn (string bass). When the group was forming, it was intended that would be the fiddle player. Based on Hartford's engagements, and Clements' reputational stature in the bluegrass community, Clements became the group's fiddler. The group performed traditional tunes such as "Pig in a Pen" as well as bluegrass-flavored versions of the Rolling Stone's "" and Peter Rowan's "Panama Red". The group had a short existence playing a total of approximately 50 live shows through much of 1973 then briefly reconvening for one bluegrass festival in 1974. All the official Old & In The Way releases consist of live recordings made in San Francisco in October 1973. Old & in the Way's , which was released in 1975, went on to become one of the best selling bluegrass albums of all time. This debut album was recorded 8 October 1973 at the Boarding House in . The album up for bid is a 1985 remaster of the original 1975 release. It was distributed on the Sugar Hill label and was pressed by Electrosound Group Midwest, Inc. It consists of 10 tracks with a run time of 42+ minutes. The cover is VG+ condition with very to find fault with, such as split seams, bent corners or markings. The covers are glossy with no evidence of disc wear. The caricature album cover was illustrated by Greg Irons and the artwork is pristine with no signs of discoloration. The inner sleeve consists of a poly vinyl anti-static sleeve that is original. The recording has been cleaned and tested using Audacity. All tracks are free of skips. There is very little backgroud noise. However, on testing I detected four mild "clicks" over a 9 second span on Side 2, track 1 (Panama Red). These " "clicks" did not interfere with the music. All remaining 9 tracks are free of any background noise. On inspection, there are no scratches or scuffs on the record surface, but there does appear to be a spot abnormality on the one effected track that was resistent to repeat cleaning. The sound on the recording is strong and clear. The record surfaces show very little evidence of wear.
I always clean, listen and test every record I list on EBAY. I do this in insure that I can give as accurate a description for each album I list. I also try to follow the Goldmine standards on grading records. I do this as a service to the buyer, as well as, to maintain my own reputation.
