Early 1st U.S. Stereo pressing of The Doors legendary and influential self-titled debut album (EKS- 74007) released in January 1967. This particular copy was pressed at the Allentown Record Corp. in PA. While these copies do come up occasionally, they are getting harder to find in half decent condition with cover still in original shrink wrap. Have a good look at all the pictures.
Cover: Excellent(minus).....the shrink wrap has preserved the cover very well. The ring wear you see is on the shrink wrap and not on the cover itself. That said, some of the shrink wrap has shrunk and torn away exposing the corners to some wear, hence, the "minus" designation. Still, a very nice example (with 1967 price sticker intact) and rarely found in better condition.
Elektra Records Inner-Sleeve: VG.....printed on thick textured paper....has the "7 Poland St." address printed which indicates the earliest variant for this inner. Seam split along the bottom edge.
Record: VG+ to Excellent(minus) .....the thick and heavy record looks almost perfect...save for a few barely visible superficial lines and marks. I've given a conservative grade of VG+ but several songs grade higher. You might hear a few seconds of background and maybe the odd tick....but that's about it. This is a solid copy with wonderful detailed audio and will be hard to improve upon. Do not pass this one up.
Matrix Numbers: Side 1 EKS - 74007 A (AL-1) ARC 18 - 2 - 8 Side 2 EKS - 74007 B (AL) ARC 18 -1 - 8
NB. The additional info after the matrix numbers (ARC 18 - 2 - 8) are not in any way a reference to what year this record was pressed. Rather, they are probably used for internal reference during the mastering/cutting process. I'm certain this record was manufactured in early 1967.
