NPR #1 - S.C.C. "Slutty Church Chixxx"

Given how much of a cultural touchstone “early eighties hardcore” is, was, and perhaps always shall be—at least nominally—in the punk scenes of whatever NOW we happen to inhabit, it absolutely fucking AMAZES me how rarely anyone gets it right. I mean, what was the last good hardcore band, like, ever? Los Crudos? The State? Seven Seconds? Negative fricking Approach? Well, what-fuckingever, the Slutty Church Chixxx knock this thing out of the fucking metaphorical ballpark with a bat that is pure, strong, and one hundred percent cork-free! It’s an eight-song 45, which is EXACTLY RIGHT i might add, managing to channel Dez-era Black Flag ((“Your Morality”)), MDC ((“Police Harassment”)) and first-album Circle Jerks ((“Exit 6”)) in the space of THE FIRST SIDE ALONE! Everything is LOUD and MEAN and FAST and TO THE POINT and, in the interests of consumer service, they’ve even eliminated the gaps between songs for your listening pleasure. None can ask fairer than that! This band rules. May they never release a full-length album ((especially one with a full-color cover)). Amen. BEST SONG: “Exit 6” BEST SONG TITLE: “Minimum Wage, Maximum Rage” i guess. We’re not really into song titles here, fucko. FANTASTIC AMAZING TRIVIA FACT: I’ve been to Huntsville, to watch the Brewers double-A affiliate, the Huntsville Stars. Their team has “Faith Night” promotions, where every player wears a jersey number corresponding to a Biblical verse…so you’d think there would have been plenty of Slutty Church Chixxx at the ballpark, but i saw none. – RAZORCAKE (Rev. Norb)

NPR #2 - BLOOD RED BABY BLUE "The Colors of Chaos"

This debut out of Alabama combines shock rock, goth and good ol' fashioned punk. If you didn't know they were into BDSM by lookin' at 'em, the name of the lead singer oughtta tip you off: Miss Stress Tamantha. Like The Genitorturers, BRBB bring elements of performance art to their shows where they've been known to flog members of the audience. Part 45 Grave, part Naked Raygun, their awesome guitar work and galloping drums left me bouncing and bobbing. Worth a listen just for the high energy and quality tunes; plus, the colored vinyl is sick: half blood red and half baby blue. Definitely recommended for those who desire a little more punishment in their lives. - RAZORCAKE

NPR #3 - DRUNK IN A DUMPSTER "Money $hot!"

This comes in a recycled DIY sleeve in the form of an old Neil Diamond LP sleeve with the band name scrawled in marker on the front and a torn piece of paper roughly hewn to the back with the track listing. The inner sleeve has some punk as fuck art and lyrics. The vinyl is splatter, but what about the music? Well it’s hardcore punk, no messing, no fuss, just pure impact, with chesty vocals, searing guitar, thundering bass and oompah hardcore drumming. The songs seem to be primarily about booze and tales of various other self-destructive acts. Fans of everything from PTL Klub to Personality Crisis to Stretch Marks and Poison Idea, will enjoy this. You can always cover up the crap sleeve with the insert. - ARTCORE (Issue #30)

NPR #4 - RANDOM CONFLICT "Tradition is the Enemy"

“This Alabama band have been around for 25 years and are still at it. This is sharp and ripping hardcore like a mix of STRUNG UP and PUBLIC NUISANCE if they were on the Southern half of the old tape compilation ‘War Between the States’…gritty like an inner city hardcore band from 1983. Fans of early hardcore will love this.” – Artcore #31

“This is a punishing, awesome southern punk record. If this band keeps branching out and striving to step out from the pack, I will definitely be looking forward to their next 25 years.” – Maximum Rock N Roll
