Genuine Red Velvet Wood Handle Disc Cleaner
Unlike other name brand, factory-produced record brush and disc washers, we use only genuine velvet for our cleaning heads. The brushes from the "days of old" all originally used velvet as it is the most effective material for reaching the bottom of the grooves on a record, while maintaining its shape and durability. Just one use of our Red Velvet Disc Cleaner will make you a believer, and if you have used other newer disc cleaners, you will know why ours is the superior tool for the job.
This item is handcrafted at "Grooves Unlimited" and uses only quality materials. They are made by people with a passion for collecting, listening, and the proper cleaning and preservation of vinyl records. We offer a more effective and proper tool for a lesser charge than the leading brands. If you have purchased old or new vinyl, we urge you to buy this disc cleaner to properly take care of them.
Things to know about caring for your records:
The prevention of dust from being introduced to the surface of the record is the first line of defense against damage. Dust penetrates the bottom of the groove and once there, it creates less space for the needle to fit properly and effects the way your stylist travels along the record. This causes it to move off center, or back and forth within the groove. At this point, your stylist is acting more as a cutting lathe for your record than a playback device. Over time (and in less time than you think) this causes permanent damage to the playback quality of your record, and deteriorates your needles faster.
Always be sure to change your needle often. Real diamond-tipped needles will get between 2000-2500 plays and sapphire-tipped around 600-800. Avoid other types of metal or composite tips as they will only cause further damage and terrible sounding playback.
Distilled water can be used as a cleaner for your disc! Yes, despite the various different types of detergents out there, distilled water is effective and less harmful to the surface of your record than any detergent! DO NOT use our disc cleaner on a wet record, or any disc brush like this for that matter. Rinse your record in water and then let it dry first before you use a disc brush on it. Cleaning with a disc brush when the vinyl is wet will only promote any debris left on the surface to be forced down into the grooves again, most likely even deeper than before. Often times you can witness the effect of this on the first play back after doing so. Dust will curl out of the groove in a sticky, paste-like substance being forced out by the needle. This sticky paste is more or less mud, and needs to be avoided.
Regular brushing with our disc cleaner, before or after play, along with proper storage, is the best way to ensure the quality of your vinyl and that it's play back is long lasting.
