My vinyl grading guidelines
Vinyl Grade MINT (M): Perfect : This record looks like it has just left the manufacturer, with NO flaws what so ever. It looks as though it had never been handled. No scuffs or scratches, blotches or stains. NEAR MINT (NM) : This record appears virtually flawless , very minor scuffs and very little else can appear on the vinyl. It should play without any noise over the flaw. The flaw is very hard to see. EXCELLENT (EX) : Minor scuffs which are only slightly visible. There may be more than a few scuffs.It should play without any noise over the flaw. VERY GOOD (VG) : Record shows wear, surface scuffs. The vinyl still has a great luster, but the flaws will be noticeable to the naked eye. The flaws may cause some surface noise, GOOD:(G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. Sleeve Grade Mint Cover (M) - No stickers address labels, writing on the covers or labels. No tears or seam splits. No wear to the cover. Age of the record has nothing to do with it. Near Mint (NM) - The cover looks as close to perfect with only minor signs of wear and or age. Excellent (EX) - Artwork is still as close to perfect as can be. Some impression to the cover (minor outer ring wear) but no ink wear! Some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled and obtrusive to the eye. VG (VG) - The artwork looks clean with slightly more aging. The back of the cover usually gives away the age of the cover. Flat white paper will be somewhat yellow yet no stains or mildew from water damage. Some minor wear to the seams or spine, but no tears or holes popping through. GOOD (G)The cover and the contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration,small tears etc.

A word about hairline marks. It is almost impossible to find any non-sealed record without any hairline marks - many had them from new, particularly if sold with cardboard inner sleeves. They are a result of storage and use and have little impact on sound quality.

I package my records in the strongest purpose made mailers and boxes for maximum safety.

All records are removed from their picture sleeves where appropriate and placed in a for purpose poly-sleeve and then packed in a mailer or a purpose made box (which comfortably holds 4 records), to avoid damage during transit.

This calculation does not apply to orders over 2kg in weight (5 lp's is usually just under 2kg). Orders over 2kg in weight may have to be split into 2 or more packages to ensure shipping is as cost effective as possible and a combined invoice will be sent at the end of the auction.
