The Beatles : Beatles For Sale 1964 (1st Mono Presssing)

I recently purchased a Beatles collection and the majority of them are Mono first pressings.  They have been incredibly well looked after by the one previous owner and she stored them all upright in plastic sleeves since the 60s.  They have only been lightly played and the covers are in wonderful condition.  Any minor wear will be fully described.  There will be no 'buy it now' price as I prefer to let the auctions run.

Mono 4N/3N first pressing on Yellow/Black label.  'The Parlophone Co. Ltd' etc printed around the perimeter edge.

'Recording first published 1964' and 'Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions' etc also on labels.

Visual grading

Side One retains that glossy sheen and you just would not know this vinyl is approaching 53 years old judging by the visual quality of this side.  It looks absolutely stunning and only has a couple of faint hairlines.  For the most part Side Two is the same although there are 2/3 very small faint scratches.  Overall this vinyl is visually in stunning condition and a thorough play grading is detailed below.

Play grading

There is almost no background interference prior to 'No Reply' starting.  The track then plays so clearly, the clarity is first class.  There is only a touch of static but it is in no way intrusive.  There is no loud crackle and certainly no clicks or pops.  All the songs on Side One play in the same way with wonderful clear audio.  'Rock and Roll Music' and 'Kansas City' play with a little more distortion but perhaps this is due to 'louder' mono tracks being played through my stereo system.  They still play with great audio!  The static is also a little more prevalent on 'Mr Moonlight' but again may be due to the aforementioned reason.

'Eight Days A Week' on Side Two plays with stunning audio and barely any interference.  'Words of Love' does have a few clicks in the middle section unfortunately but the rest of the track plays very well.  'Honey Don't' is a real highlight and has superb audio.  'Every Little Thing' has a handful of soft clicks but is not particularly intrusive.  'I don't Want To Spoil The Party' has one click and apart from that plays with very clear audio.  The final two tracks play without issue and are an excellent listen.

It is worth noting that there is complete silence between almost every track on both sides so I am sure any distortion type sound will disappear when played on a mono system.

Gatefold cover

The laminated gatefold with the two flipbacks on the right inner cover is in overall excellent condition.  The laminate is still in wonderful shape and there is only one crease of any note in the top right hand corner.  The edges and spine are very clean although there is minor rubbing at the top and bottom of the latter.  The inside of the gatefold is in superb shape and the flipbacks themselves are as clean as the day when first released.  On the back cover there is a tiny bit of wear on the bottom edge and one small crease on the left hand corner.  Other than that this gatefold is extremely clean for over half a century old and has obviously been looked after very well and carefully handled.

Inner sleeve

I am not entirely sure if this is the original sleeve.  However, this die-cut inner remains in excellent condition with only minor creasing and no splits.

Labels

They are both in superb condition and have no marks or writing, just some spindle wear.
