LED ZEPPELIN III A5 / B5 Atlantic 2401022 UK 1970 Red/Plum LABEL
This is a genuine first pressing of their third LP on the famous red/plum label.  It has the 'Peter Grant' credit as Executive producer on the labels which later copies do not.  The publishing credits are 'Warner Bros. Music Ltd'.
It also has the famous Aleister Crowley quotes  'Do what thou wilt' and 'So mote it be' etched on the run out grooves.  The rotating wheel still works perfectly on the gatefold.

Visual grading

Under a bright light I can detect a number of faint hairlines on both sides mainly due to sleeve removal I would say.  There are no deep feelable scratches and overall it is a clean looking vinyl for its age. There is spindle wear so the record has obviously been played a number of times but I have seen many first pressings that isn't as visually good as this one.
Play grading

There is light crackle on the run in and then 'Immigrant Song' plays with excellent audio with the crackle less certainly less prevalent and very much in the background.  It is slightly more evident during 'Friends' due to being a quieter song but it still plays very clearly and no other background noise apart from one faint click.  Do not be put off by my somewhat repetitious nature of going on about static/crackle!  I grade thoroughly as my feedback confirms and I just write what I hear!  So yes there is a little interference here but it is not intrusive and as some would say it adds to the atmosphere!  'Celebration Day' plays with excellent audio, loud and clear, and there is no obvious interference.  The bluesy 'Since I've Been Loving You' has only a touch of static and the clarity is wonderful although there are four clicks about two minutes in.  However, for a genuine 47 year old  first pressing the sound quality here was a joy to listen to.  'Out On The Tiles' ends Side One with no crackle just some distortion.  This is very common on 'final tracks' where the grooves are pressed closer together so as to fit the track onto the side.  Saying that it still sounds great, especially the ending, although that isn't a very technical grading as such!
'Gallows Pole' has some crackle at the beginning but it does decrease as the song progresses.  There is one pop in the middle but overall it plays very well with excellent depth and a great bass sound.  Still a great foot stomping song!  'Tangerine' again only has light intermittent crackle in the background and a couple of pops towards the end but still plays very clearly.  'That's The Way' is stunning and in my opinion is not far off Near Mint quality.  The 'Bron-y-aur Stomp' only has light static at the start with the remainder playing with superb warmth, a fabulous listen.  The final track 'Hats off to (Roy) Harper' has light crackle in the background and no other interference.  Once again though I do not believe the crackle is intrusive in any way.

Gatefold cover
The laminated E.J. Day gatefold is in excellent condition and the rotating wheel still works perfectly well.  There are no marks or writing and this is actually one of the cleanest first press gatefold I have seen.  The laminate only has a couple of small creases on the front cover, the inside and back cover are more or less pristine.  The only downside is the top and bottom edge of the front cover has come unglued from the inside, this is especially common with this LP and is generally caused by the pressure of the rotating wheel.  I'm sure it could be stuck back together again. Looking down at it from the top there is also a bowed look to the cover but again perhaps it could be flattened out.  Otherwise the gatefold is beautifully clean and has no staining which you so often see.  The spine is still in excellent order with only minor rubbing at the top and bottom.
Poly-lined inner sleeve
Included is a 'Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous' inner but I don't think it is the original.  It is in excellent condition with no splits at all, only mild creasing.
The labels
There are a few light marks on the S1 label that are only visible under a certain light.  Otherwise they are in excellent condition with no writing, only some spindle wear.
