Impulse! AS-9206 Pharoah Sanders-tenor and soprano saxophones, alto flute, percussion, koto, ballophone; Michael White-violin; Lonnie Liston Smith-Fender Rhodes, piano, ballophone, hand percussion; Cecil McBee-bass; Clifford Jarvis or Roy Haynes-drums; Produced by Ed Mic
Pharoah Sanders followed the path John Coltrane blazed in his late period, when Pharoah was playing in his band: spiritual and transcendent--with loose compositions as vehicles for free improvisation--drawing from musical traditions (and instruments) from around the world for inspiration. There is some studio experimentation with multi-tracks (free improv with overdubs), a beautiful bass solo by Cecil McBee (overdubs here, also) and joyful seriousness. Engineers and studios are credited on both coasts (one each: NYC and LA). The recording quality is superb, typical of Impulse
The LP condition is VG+, it played through smoothly with very little static and surface noise. The ink is worn around the spindle hole, but the hole itself is solid. The cover is slightly worn, with a 1" edge split on the top edge near the opening, shelf wear on the bottom edge and ring wear. The title on the spine is well-aligned and easily readable. The inner sleeve (with Impulse catalog items from that time) is included.
View my other items! I usually have several LPs listed on ebay, mostly jazz. I will be adding more Pharoah Sanders LPs in particular...Save $ by combining your shipments: each additional LP in the same shipment will only cost .25 shipping. Please notify me of your intention to combine LPs in a shipment, and hold your payment until the completion of all auctions on which you have bids..
International buyers are welcome, but be aware your shipping cost will be higher, based on weight (often an additional LP will cost nothing extra over the initial shipping charge).
