It's been 37 years since The Apartments first formed in Brisbane, Australia, and a good eighteen since the last time mainman Peter Milton Walsh deigned to make a record under this name. Yet 'No Song No Spell No Madrigal', something of a melancholic showcase for his unique voice and elegantly tortured songcraft, only has one wondering what took him so long. Transcending the 'chamber pop' pigeonhole he often finds himself in, Walsh here offers reflective and emotionally charged ditties of rare potency. For the uninitiated, fans of The Blue Nile or Red House Painters would do well to acquaint themselves with this mercurial sound.
