We want to make sure that you understand just how important Lustmord has been to the ambient and drone scene over the years. Unlike what the newcomers might think, which is partly because of the artist's fairly recent appearance on Blackest Ever Black, Lustmord has been active in the left field domain since the beginning of the 1980s, and it's fair to say that he's a bit of legend. To us, he's what we'd call a 'big dawg'. He's back on Hydra Head Records, Aaron Turner's ghostly imprint that dates back to 1993, with a four-part EP that enters the most spectral of drone tunnels available on our charts this week. Both segments of "Subspace" are hollow, bottomless pits of doom and nightmares, which is not too dissimilar from the echoing screams and tenebrous chambers of "Astronomicon" and "Black Static", two remarkably gloomy sonic constructions. A heavily recommended affair.
