Welcome to Heart of Wax - Vinyl online record shop. I shall endeavour to post up as many exciting records up here that I find. Usually all from private collections which I've sourced. I'm happy to post out records to the UK, Europe and the Rest of The World (please see prices below). Generally each record is secondhand and has been played. All have been cleaned and listened to by myself. And if there are any faults or defects, I will provide them in an honest description below.

DON RENDELL / IAN CARR QUINTET - PHASE III

Very rare original first stereo pressing from 1968. British jazz in the 1950's and 1960's never really became mainstream, eclipsed by those 'popular music' whipper snappers - all those chaps with long hair strumming electric guitars. It was tough to keep ahead of the game. Even at jazz's height it was populated by American jazz so British jazz hardly ever got a look in. And further down the line British modern jazz record titles sold only in a few thousand - hence their premium auction price today.
This LP: Rendell/Carr Quintet shows how far British jazz in the second half of the 60's had taken altogether exciting new directions. Not a jazz songbook standard in sight, moving away from the usual jazz conventions of AABA structure, heads and solos, rhythm section down in the engine room, improvised virtuosity of the soloists. This is jazz charting its own course. Setting sail for new lands. Rather than following any path left before and anything still left ahead of itself.
As a matter of fact EBay only had a a pre-genre drop box of selected genres. I could only choose 'Bop.' When in fact this is 'pre-bop.' It's so ultra modern that 'bop' wasn't really a thing. The musicians on the front cover are for all intents and purposes 'hipster mods.' Fashionably beards and a snappy image. This is the new breed. Even following from the wake of this record (and those similar) jazz artists were appearing on front covers of their records in shirts, ties, braces and slim fitting continental suits. An indication of how modern Britain was unfolding - especially art school types who had thrown away their military brass band scores given to them by music teachers - and that's just those who were into jazz.
As for the music Rendell offers a bridge between American old and the British new, a polished jazz improviser who moves into the counterpart, opposite to Carr, in search for the new extremes. The Rendell/Carr Quintet earned themselves a very special place of affection in the canon of British jazz: creative, original and somehow very British.

POSTAGE
Due to high price this is a free postage service
INTERNATIONAL POSTAGE
I have offered European and international postage to people on other records which I sell. However one particular continental customer has sent through some horrible feedback and been rather abusive - so I'd prefer to now only ship to somewhere in the UK from here on in. Shame really that we all can't get along. But that's the modern world for you.
It doesn't mean I won't ship abroad but you'll have to send me a message so I can figure out a postage price and whether or not I'm happy to ship this, or any item out to you. Everyone deserves a second chance.
All the best.
