Poetry for the Beat Generation was originally recorded in a single session in 1958 and was the first in a trio of albums from the iconoclastic novelist. Kerouac was brought into the studio by TV personality, comic and musician after the duo had performed at the Village Vanguard. His piano comes off as the perfect foil for the author's spoken-word delivery. Kerouac's monotone is rife with jazz inflected articulation, moving with ease over Allen's lithe piano playing.
